A Jackson TV station is reporting the arrest of a Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper on charges of child abuse.

WLBT-TV reports trooper Jesse Turberville, 28, of Brandon, was arrested by Brandon Police on Tuesday and charged with child abuse.

Turberville is a former Brandon Police officer who has been a trooper with the state for less than a year. Details of the allegations against him were not immediately released.

He was released after posting the $50,000 bond and his case now awaits a grand jury review.

WLBT reported that Turberville is on administrative leave after the arrest. Like all persons charged with crimes, he is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
