A 35-year-old man has been indicted on first-degree murder charges in the death of a Mississippi man who was shot several times in the head in the Parkway Village area in July, said Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich.
Defendant Steven Klines is being held without bond in the Shelby County Jail.
The victim, Willie D. Jones, 23, of Greenwood, Mississippi, was shot July 1 this year while walking past a residence in the 3400 block of Barbwood Drive in southeast Memphis. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police that a suspect nicknamed “Worm” shot Jones, then walked to his car and drove away. Investigators eventually identified “Worm” as Klines, and arrested him about two weeks later.
The case is being handled by Chief Prosecutor Stephanie Johnson of the DA’s Vertical Prosecution Team 2 which handles cases from General Sessions Division 9 and Criminal Court Division 2.
