A Mississippi man was arrested on charges of attempted murder Friday after what police say was a road rage incident in Memphis, Tennessee.

Torrence Townsend of Holly Springs, Mississippi, was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder, WREG-TV reported.

The husband and wife victims said they were driving in February when the incident occurred. They allegedly stopped to allow another motorist turn into traffic ahead of them which prompted the assailant to pull alongside them.

The other drive exchanged words with them, then pulled a handgun and started firing. The woman was shot.

Townsend was arrested in June by federal agents. During that arrest, police say they found a firearm that they say was connected to the road rage case.
