A special election has been ordered for a Mississippi Senate district where a candidate won by a single vote.

The Sun Herald reports the certification of Dixie Newman as the winner of Senate District 50 in Harrison County was vacated by special judge Richard McKenzie on Tuesday.

Attorneys for Newman and her opponent state Rep. Scott DeLano requested a partial revote in five split districts.

An inspection of the results showed irregularities in the election. Votes in the other 11 districts will stand.
DeLano had requested a recount last month.

The governor will set the date for the special election.
