Police have charged a Meridian woman with neglecting her child after police believe they found the boy’s remains in garbage bags at a Meridian house.

Meridian media report Teasia Warren, 24, has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Reportedly Warren left her two children with caregiver Celeste Louise Smith, 25, to watch them in April.

When Warren returned Smith reportedly told her the children were in Jackson. Eventually one of the two children was returned, but 5-year-old Jakie Toole, who reportedly was a special needs child, was never found.

In spite of her child being missing since April, police say, Warren didn’t report the child as missing until the first week of September.

The investigation into the missing child’s whereabouts eventually led to Smith, who took police to the house were the remains were found sealed inside garbage bags and hidden in the basement.

Although DNA testing is not completed yet, the preliminary autopsy report showed the human remains in the bags belonged to a small child and that the child appeared to have been abused — with broken bones and signs of being burned.

Smith has been charged with capital murder and is held without bond.
