A 1-year-old baby was shot while strapped into a car seat when the baby’s father and another man got into an argument Saturday in Leake County.

Leake County Sheriff Greg Waggoner said the shooting occurred on Waggoner Road.

Waggoner told WLBT-TV that two men got into an argument. In the dispute, the sheriff said, Daniel Momon, 25, retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun from inside his residence. He came back outside and began shooting into a car in which the baby was secured.

The second man, who has not been identified, shot back at Momon with a handgun, striking him in the rear end. Momon was treated and released. Upon release he was arrested, charged with aggravated assault.

The baby, Jamaryn Johnson-Walker, was shot through the hip, investigators reported, and was in stable condition at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
