A Mississippi man who head-butted his infant son to death will spend the next 23 years in prison for the crime.

The Laurel Leader-Call reports Rashad Drake, 28, (aka Rashad Cosby) pleaded guilty last week to second-degree murder in the killing of his infant son Rashad Cosby Jr. in December 2015 after the baby began crying early in the morning.

Drake reportedly took the baby away from his mother and began to head-butt the child and twist his arms, the newspaper reported.

Drake was on probation at the time of the 2015 arrest on earlier aggravated assault charges. His probation was revoked at the time of his arrest for killing his son and sentenced to serve 11 years for three aggravated assault charges.

The murder sentence will begin after the assault sentence has been served, the Impact 601 reported.

He had been scheduled to go on trial for capital murder and faced the death penalty before the plea agreement was worked out.
