A Vicksburg man has been charged with setting an apartment complex on fire earlier this week.

Officials with the Vicksburg Fire Department announced earlier in the week that Tuesday’s fires at former Confederate Ridge Apartments were no accident. They announced the first were intentionally set.

On Friday, officials announced Larry Jack Shoops, 45, had been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree arson. Shoops is accused of starting two fires at the abandoned apartment complex, which had been under development as Park Avenue Condominiums. Shoops is charged with burning down the lower pool house and attempting to burn down building number 20 on Tuesday.

Shoops is scheduled to make his initial court appearance Friday in Warren County Justice Court for a bond hearing. If convicted, he faces 5-20 years in prison for each charge of arson.

This arrest was a joint cooperation of the Vicksburg Fire Department, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, Warren County Sheriff Office and the Vicksburg Police Department.
