What started with a group text is ending with thousands of books for students.

The Daily Corinthian reports that Biggersville Elementary School teacher Andrea Coleman had the idea to seek community sponsorships to help pay for $1 books from Scholastic Book.

Principal Elizabeth White says the idea spread like wildfire and it quickly expanded from Coleman’s homeroom class to the whole school.

The Literacy for Lions campaign kicked off in late summer and by mid-September they’d met their goal to raise $2,700. More than 300 students will receive one free book each month from September through May.

Some of the books include “Charlotte’s Web,” ”Frindle,” and “If You Give A Mouse A Brownie.”

The school is the smallest school in Alcorn County.
