Tractor-trailer tire bounces into Mississippi visitors center, catching it on fire
A tire separated from a tractor-trailer on Interstate 55 in North Mississippi Sunday, bounced down a hill and crashed into the DeSoto County Visitors Center, catching the building on fire.
Fortunately, no one was inside the building late Sunday when the freak accident happened.
Media report the tire and wheel were extremely hot and when they came in contact with paper inside the building, it ignited quickly.
The building was damaged by fire, smoke and water making it not usable at the moment. The DeSoto County Visitors Center leaders said they soon will find another location from which to operate.
Reportedly the truck driver managed to get the damaged truck safely off the Interstate without further injury or damage.
