State inmate vanished from work detail Monday afternoon, manhunt underway to find him

A state inmate convicted of burglary and car theft has escaped from a work detail in Southwest Mississippi.

Mississippi Department of Corrections officials announced Monday the escaped of Dennis Farrell Blansett (MDOC#216595) who was on a work detail for the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) at about 1:09 p.m. Monday when he disappeared.

Blansett was last seen in the area of Highway 51 three miles north of Bogue Chitto near Brookhaven.

Blansett, 46, stands at 5 feet 8 inches and weighs 160 pounds. He has hazel eyes and bushy salt-pepper color hair.

Blansett is housed at the Pike County Community Work Center. His record includes convictions on five counts of non-residential burglary and one count of taking a motor vehicle in Marion County.
