Arctic blast will be so cold, weather forecasters expect it to break more than 200 records across country this week

Get your heavy winter jackets ready, because you’re going to need them this week.

An arctic winter blast promises to bring record-breaking low temperatures to the Southeast before heading to the East Coast.

Data from the National Weather Service predicts that more than 200 record lows could be tied or set from Monday to Wednesday.
The mercury will plummet Tuesday night into Wednesday morning across Mississippi. Lows will fall into the low and middle 20s, with some spots in east-central Mississippi dipping into the upper teens.
Ahead of the cold front, strong northerly winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 40 mph are possible tonight through Tuesday morning, forecasters with the National Weather Service said. These winds can bring down weak trees and make driving hazardous for high profile vehicles, officials warned.
The weather is part of an arctic blast that’s hitting the East Coast, bringing below-freezing temperatures to some places. On Monday, temperatures are expected to plummet in the Great plains, before moving farther east on Tuesday and Wednesday.
