Ambulance stolen from truck stop; napping crew member wakes, jumps to safety

A Mississippi ambulance crew member jumped from a moving ambulance early Sunday after someone stole it at a truck stop near Meridian.

Meridian area media report sheriff’s deputies arrested Zachary Lamon Hopson of Meridican and charged him with motor vehicle theft, felony fleeing and driving under the influence.

Three ambulance crew members were reportedly headed back to Jackson when they stopped at the truck stop off Interstate 20 just after 1 a.m.

While two crew members went inside the truck stop, another stayed in the back of the ambulance napping and went unnoticed when the ambulance was stolen. One he realized what was going on, he jumped out of the back of the ambulance, sheriff’s deputies reported.
