Mississippi authorities say at least one police officer shot and killed a man who was being investigated in the shooting of his own wife.

DeSoto County District Attorney John Champion tells WMC-TV that a child in Horn Lake called 911 Tuesday morning to say their father shot their mother.

Officers responded to the home and learned the man was inside with a weapon.

Champion says some officers spoke to the man while others pulled the wounded woman to safety on the other side of the house.

Champion says officers fatally shot the man when he would not do what they told him to do.

Three children were inside the home, but they were not injured.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation officers is examining the case, as with all officer-involved shootings.
