A Mississippi university has temporarily suspended members of a dance team and marching band as it investigates hazing accusations against them.
Jackson State University Media Relations Specialist L.A. Warren said Wednesday the Division of Student Affairs learned of the accusations against the dance squad, The Prancing J-Settes, and the band, Sonic Boom of the South, two weeks ago.
News outlets report Warren wouldn’t say how many members had been suspended but did say the complaints involved “unauthorized off-campus excursions.”
The Clarion Ledger reports that in 2015, nine members of the J-Settes were suspended following an investigation that determined they held an off-campus practice in violation of policy.
The members disputed the decision in Hinds County Court and a judge ruled in their favor, allowing them to rejoin the squad.
