Mississippi school apologizes for teacher’s policy: Bring food to party or don’t eat
A Mississippi school system is apologizing after a teacher said students can’t eat at a class holiday party if they don’t bring food.
News outlets report the Meridian Public School District issued a statement Thursday saying a teacher wrote a letter to parents about an upcoming Christmas party.
It said in part: “My philosophy is if they don’t bring anything, they don’t eat anything.”
A statement by school superintendent Amy Carter says parents contacted the school and district office with concerns about the letter.
“I want to ensure our families and students that all students will participate and no students will be made to feel uncomfortable if they don’t bring refreshments,” the statement said.
Carter said she wants students to feel like school is a “safe place.”
The school system’s statement didn’t name the school or the teacher involved.
