One Mississippi county has now officially dubbed itself a Second Amendment “safe haven.’

Exactly what that means and whether it could ever withstand any sort of legal challenge remain unclear.

A national movement has begun recently in which municipalities and county governments declare themselves as “sanctuaries” or “safe havens” against any potential state laws that might be perceived as gun control.

DeSoto County, Mississippi, joined those ranks Tuesday when members of the county board of supervisors unanimously passed a resolution declaring itself as a Second Amendment “safe haven.”

The move is the first of its kind in Mississippi, but a number of locations across the U.S. have passed similar legislation.

Proponents tend to take an unlimited approach to the Second Amendment, believing it cannot be limited by state government.
