Mississippi officer shoots, kills man who drove vehicle at him as he approached domestic call scene

A Mississippi police officer shot and killed a man who was driving toward the officer as the man fled a domestic situation.

Gulfport police were called to a residence on 25th Street in Gulfport early Saturday morning, police report. Several 911 calls were received from the location and as the officer approached the scene on foot, a man leaving the scene in a vehicle drove at the officer prompting the officer to shoot at the driver.

The driver, identified as Leonard Parker Jr., 53 of Covington, Georgia, was shot once and died from the wound.

Gulfport police, as a matter of policy, turned over the matter to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations and neighboring Biloxi Police to investigate the shooting. The officer was reportedly has been moved to work administrative functions while the investigation into the shooting is completed.
