A shooting broke out Wednesday in a parking lot outside a hospital in Mississippi, leaving three people dead, including the suspect, news outlets reported.

The gunfire broke out about 6:30 a.m. on the campus of Baptist Medical Center near downtown Jackson, police said.

Two people died at the scene, and WAPT-TV reported that a person suspected of being the shooter was found dead in a cemetery in nearby Pearl with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A statement issued by Baptist Medical Center said the hospital was safe and police were investigating. Officers cordoned off an area of the parking lot near a dark-colored sedan where witnesses said shots were fired.

WLBT-TV reports that Jackson police believe the matter began as a domestic dispute. They report that a man approached a female employee at the hospital this morning when a struggle ensued. A hospital security guard tried to intervene and was shot along with the female hospital worker.

The shooter then reportedly drove away from the scene in the female victim’s vehicle.
