Mississippi mystery: 1 body found anchored in pond, 5 people arrested, no details (yet)

Residents in the town of Philadelphia, Mississippi, are left with lots of questions after law enforcement investigators issuing a search warrant found a body anchored with weights in a farm pond.

Police also have said five people have been arrested in connection to the case, but neither the body’s identification nor the names of the five arrested have been released publicly.

Neshoba County Sheriff Eric Clark told the Neshoba Democrat newspaper, ““Nothing from the Coroner. Rumors equal poor news coverage.”

The body was found Saturday after investigators obtained a search warrant to drain the pond, located near the hope community on Friday and began the draining process.

The body was located weighed down and anchored presumably to avoid its being located in approximately 4 or 5 feet of water.

The body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Sheriff Clark told the newspaper additional charges may be forthcoming.
