The man police say caused a car accident that killed the unborn child of a pregnant woman who was driving home from a baby shower now faces homicide charges, a Mississippi newspaper reported.

James Cory Gilbert, 33, had been out on bond for charges he left the scene of a deadly accident.

But he was back in court last week as new charges were levied against him based on toxicology reports. The Laurel-Leader Call newspaper reported that investigators told the court Gilbert’s blood alcohol content test showed he was drunk when he was driving in the wrong lane and ran head-on into a car driven by Mashayla Harper.

Harper was driving home on Jan. 4 after attending a baby shower.

She was badly injured in the crash, but survived. Her baby, which was to have been named Londyn Alise Jones, did not survive.

Gilbert has a history of DUI charges, the newspaper reported.
