Nine people charged (so far) after anchored body found at bottom of Mississippi pond

Mississippi criminal investigators have charged nine people in connection with the body found weighted down at the bottom of a Mississippi farm pond.

The body has not been publicly identified by police. They have sent the body to the state crime lab for identification and cause of death.

The body was found Feb. 15 after officials began draining a farm pond in the Hope community as they executed a search warrant. The body, which was described as being weighted down and anchored to the bottom, was found in 4 to 5 feet of water.

The Neshoba Democrat newspaper reports two of the nine people charged have been charged with kidnapping and capital murder.

Those two are James Kelly and Tyrone Braxton.

The newspaper reports that Joanna Brook Gilmer and Alexandria Bell have been charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder.

Three people were charged with hindering prosecution-rendering criminal assistance: Terry Crocker, Alexa Johnson and Tyree Smith.

Two people, Justus Barfield and Ian C. Thompson, were charged with being an accessory after the fact.
