Police chase ends with officer shooting suspect near children’s group home

A police chase led to an officer shooting a man who ran onto the campus of a children’s group home in Mississippi.

The chase that began in Union County stretched into Tupelo, where police said the adult male suspect ran from his vehicle and onto the property of the Tupelo Children’s Mansion, news outlets reported.

The suspect, who wasn’t immediately identified, was taken to a hospital for treatment, said Tupelo police spokesman Capt. Chuck McDougald.

No officers or citizens were physically injured, he said.

A firearm was recovered from the scene, according to police.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called to lead the investigation into the shooting.

The Tupelo Children’s Mansion serves family and children in crisis situations, according to its website.
