The latest: Mississippi coronavirus cases by the numbers

As Mississippi cases of COVID-19 coronavirus rise, demographic statistics from those infected have begun to form some trends – at least thus far.

At least in cases that were reported, the disease appears to affect people in their middle and later stages of life more. Some evidence exists that man younger people may be carriers of the coronavirus without showing any symptoms.

Cases by age range:
70 and older: 130
60 to 69: 141
50 to 59: 127
40 to 49: 144
30 to 39: 110
18 to 29: 92
0 to 18: 13

Again, at least based on Mississippi’s early results, the disease appears far more deadly to older citizens.

Deaths by age range:
70 and older: 9
60 to 69: 4
50 to 59: 0
40 to 49: 1
30 to 39: 0
18 to 29: 0
0 to 18: 0

Approximately 1-in-3 patients were admitted to the hospital.

Care required:
Hospitalized: 31%
Home care: 68%

Nearly 70% of Mississippi hospitalizations have been of patients over the age of 60.
