Update: Coronavirus cases, deaths keep rising across Deep South

Corona virus cases across the Deep South continue to higher.

Here are the results through Wednesday morning (note some states have not updated their numbers since yesterday):

Alabama: 1,013 positive cases, 26 deaths.
Arkansas: 566 positive cases, 8 deaths.
Florida: 6,490 positive cases, 85 deaths.
Georgia: 4,117 positive cases, 125 deaths.
Louisiana:  5,237 positive cases, 239 deaths.
Mississippi: 1,073 positive cases, 22 deaths.
Tennessee: 2,239 positives cases, 23 deaths.
Texas: 3,266 positive cases, 41 deaths.

Total cases across the Deep South: 24,001

The number of people infected worldwide surpassed the 885,000 mark. Deaths were more than 44,000, but the number of people considered recovered reached more than 185,000, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.

The University’s tracking shows approximately 190,000 cases in the U.S., making the U.S. the country with the highest number of cases in the world.

Everyone is warned to take the necessary precautions to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and stay safe and healthy.

These precautions include:

  • Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and frequently
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with your arm
  • Avoiding touching your face
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Avoiding close contact with others
  • And staying home if you are sick
