Coronavirus cases go higher across Deep South as global cases near 1 million

Corona virus cases across the Deep South continue to higher.

Here are the results through Thursday morning (note some states have not updated their numbers since yesterday):

Alabama: 1,116 positive cases, 32 deaths.
Arkansas: 625 positive cases, 10 deaths.
Florida: 7,495 positive cases, 101 deaths.
Georgia: 4,748 positive cases, 154 deaths.
Louisiana:  6,424 positive cases, 273 deaths.
Mississippi: 1,177 positive cases, 26 deaths.
Tennessee: 2,683 positives cases, 24 deaths.
Texas: 3,997 positive cases, 58 deaths.

Total cases across the Deep South: 28,265

The number of people infected worldwide surpassed the 962,000 mark. Deaths were more than 49,000, but the number of people considered recovered reached more than 202,000, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.

The University’s tracking shows approximately 216,000 cases in the U.S., making the U.S. the country with the highest number of cases in the world.

Everyone is warned to take the necessary precautions to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and stay safe and healthy.

These precautions include:

  • Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and frequently
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with your arm
  • Avoiding touching your face
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Avoiding close contact with others
  • And staying home if you are sick
