The Latest: Coronavirus cases steadily climb across Deep South state; complete state-by-state results

Corona virus cases across the Deep South continue to higher.

Here are the results through Friday morning (note some states have not updated their numbers since yesterday):

Alabama: 1,324 positive cases, 34 deaths.
Arkansas: 687 positive cases, 12 deaths.
Florida: 8,694 positive cases, 144 deaths.
Georgia: 5,444 positive cases, 176 deaths.
Louisiana:  9,150 positive cases, 310 deaths.
Mississippi: 1,358 positive cases, 29 deaths.
Tennessee: 2,845 positives cases, 32 deaths.
Texas: 4,669 positive cases, 70 deaths.

Total cases across the Deep South: 29,271

The number of people infected worldwide surpassed the 1 million mark. Deaths were more than 55,000, but the number of people considered recovered reached more than 219,000, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.

The University’s tracking shows approximately 245,000 cases in the U.S., making the U.S. the country with the highest number of cases in the world.

Everyone is warned to take the necessary precautions to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and stay safe and healthy.

These precautions include:

  • Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and frequently
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with your arm
  • Avoiding touching your face
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Avoiding close contact with others
  • And staying home if you are sick
