Louisiana sheriff’s office mourns loss of deputy who died due to coronavirus

A Louisiana sheriff’s office is mourning the loss of one of its own who died from complications from the COVID-19 coronavirus.

“It is with a heavy heart I write to inform you that 53-year-old Sgt. Gregory Warren, a supervisor in EBRSO Transportation, passed away this morning from COVID-19 and pneumonia-related complications,” wrote East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid J. Gautreaux on a social media post. “Sgt. Warren had been away from work and turned ill shortly before he was scheduled to return last month.”

Gautreaux wrote that Warren had worked for the sheriff’s office for more than 26 years.

Warren was also a U.S. Marine.

“My heart breaks for his wife Carol, his children, his coworkers and all of those that loved him,” Gautreaux wrote. “Please remember his family in your prayers.”
