A small puppy apparently refused to leave her dead mother’s side, even as a tornado passed near, a Mississippi animal rescue league reported.

The small puppy, nicknamed Stormi by her rescuers, was spotted last week by volunteer fire crew in Mississippi just after a tornado passed through the Sharon community of Jones County.

The Southern Cross Animal Rescue (SCAR) reported they were contacted Thursday by the Power’s Volunteer Fire Department about a puppy they found Thursday morning, just after a tornado passed through the area.

SCAR volunteers reported Stormi was found lying next to a black garbage bag, along the side of a road near storm damage.

After opening the bag, volunteers found the dead body of what is believed to have been the puppy’s mother.

“This poor girl hasn’t left her mother’s side even through a tornado. We suspect that they have been there for a while,” SCAR volunteers wrote on social media.

“When her foster mom went and got her from the side of the road after the storm, she said Stormi was cowered down crying and licking her Momma’s nose,” SCAR wrote on social media.

Stormi is reportedly doing well with her foster family. Although the rescue league reports having received dozens of requests to adopt Stormi, due to the current shelter in place regulations for the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, all adoptions are halted.
