A Sunday boat ride on the Reservoir in Jackson turned into a nightmare for one family when a father dove into the water to save his son and never resurfaced.

Jackson area media reported that Justin Perkins, 33, jumped from a boat and into the Reservoir after seeing his 5-year-old son had gotten too far away from the boat.

Family members said the man’s son was wearing a floatation device while playing in the water but had strayed far away from the boat.

Media reported the Reservoir Patrol was contact at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday.

Several agencies were reportedly searching the water for the father Sunday evening.
