Reeves was going to remove more virus restrictions, until new case totals broke daily record

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said Friday the unexpected spike in new coronavirus cases forced him to delay plans to ease more restrictions on businesses.
The Mississippi State Health Department announced Friday another 397 new cases and 20 deaths. Both statistics were daily highs for the state since the coronavirus pandemic began.
Some of the deaths reported Friday, however, were actually from previous weeks. They were not being counted previously because test results were delayed.
The total cases in Mississippi are at 7,212 with 281 deaths.
Friday was the day Reeves’ earlier orders ended, which allowed many retailers to reopen.
Reeves said the virus fight “is not over,” and that he continued to listen to the advice of state health experts when determining when to ease restrictions.
