BREAKING: Mississippi sets new daily record for coronavirus cases, death toll continues to rise

Mississippi set a new daily record for the number of COVID-19 coronavirus cases the Mississippi State Health Department reported Friday.
The state reported 404 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, marking a new daily high. The previous daily high was reported last Friday when 397 cases were confirmed.
Friday’s update brings the total positive cases found in Mississippi to 9,090.
Mississippi’s death toll rose by 13 deaths, Friday, bringing the total deaths to 409. The state reported three of the latest deaths reported actually occurred days prior but were delayed in reporting.
The seven-day average number of new cases stood at 266 per day after Thursday’s update.
The state reported that 175 deaths were of residents of long-term care facilities or nearly 43 percent of all deaths in the state.
