Breaking: Mississippi’s coronavirus statistics show lowest death, hospitalization rates in two weeks

The Mississippi State Department of Health’s latest statistics released Monday morning show the lowest number of COVID-19 coronavirus deaths in two weeks and reported that the number of patients hospitalized also improved dramatically.

On Monday morning, the state reported an additional 173 new cases has been confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 9,674. The state believes approximately 65 percent of the patients found to have coronavirus have recovered.

The state announced Monday morning 5 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 435. The number of deaths was the lowest daily count reported in two weeks.

The state reported that 193 deaths were of residents of long-term care facilities or more than 44 percent of all deaths in the state.

The number of patients hospitalized with the virus dropped to 399 with another 108 patients suspected of having the virus also hospitalized, but still waiting test result to confirm presence of the virus. Both hospitalization stats were two-week lows.

The seven-day average of new cases reported dropped to 257, and was at the lowest level in approximately one week.
