The fire that destroyed a north Mississippi church is being investigated as possible arson, area media reported.
The First Pentecostal Church in Holly Spring was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s office said evidence found on scene indicated someone may have set the fire intentionally.
A Memphis TV station reported that investigators found graffiti on the parking lot that read: “Bet you stay home now you hypokrits (sic).”
The church was in a legal dispute with the city leaders over a safer-at-home order. The church’s lawsuit against the city claims the city police interrupted church services illegally.
