A Mississippi restaurant owner’s message to people who are upset over having to wear masks went viral.
“For those of you who feel inconvenienced or embarrassed by getting masks, get over yourselves,” said John Currence. “This is not about you.”
Currence is a James Beard winner and owns several restaurants throughout the South including starting several in Oxford, Mississippi, including City Grocery, Bouré, Snackbar and Big Bad Breakfast.
Currence told WREG-TV that seeing divisions among people is disappointing and he hoped his message would help others see the importance of caring for others.
“When you are in close contact with other individuals may be infected from or you may be unknowingly carrying the virus,” Currence said to the TV station. “I don’t understand why some people can on one hand obey speed limit signs or recognize they can’t drive drunk or have to put on a shirt to come in my restaurant.”
Currence said as his restaurants reopen, his staff members are his biggest concerns and he wants to keep them and his customers safe.
