A Mississippi man accused of killing an unborn baby in a hit-and-run wreck while driving impaired will remain in jail after a judge denied his request for bond last week, a newspaper reported.

Cory Gilbert, 33, is accused of driving under the influence when he struck another driver and then left the scene, the Laurel Leader-Call reported. The other car, Mashayla Harper, was driving by a woman who had just left a baby shower. Her unborn child died and she was seriously injured, but recovered.

The newspaper reported Gilbert has been arrested 21 times since 2004. Among the arrest include DUI and possession of methamphetamine, the newspaper reported.
