Average daily coronavirus cases hit new record high in Mississippi

After a technical problem prevented the state health department from updating Mississippi’s COVID-19 coronavirus statistics on Thursday, the state reported Thursday and Friday’s combined numbers Friday afternoon, and the 7-day average of new cases hit another record high.
The number of Mississippians hospitalized with COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19 hit a new record as well with a total of 710 patients. Of those, confirmed COVID-19 was 486 with another 224 suspected positives awaiting testing.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 608 new cases were confirmed in the last 48 hours bringing the total cases to 19,091. The state estimates more than 13,000 of those cases have fully recovered.
The state announced Friday 13 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 881.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases rose to 332 per day, a new record high. The previous record high of the 7-day average of new cases was 328 and was set on June 1.
The 14-day average of daily new cases rose Friday to 307 cases per day.
