Shooting leaves 11-year-old Mississippi girl dead

An 11-year-old girl was shot and killed Thursday in a rural corner of Mississippi, sheriff’s deputies say.

Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a shooting at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday. They report a number of shots were fired into a mobile home and a car at the scene.

In the shooting, the 11-year-old girl was struck. She was taken by a private car to a Centreville hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Approximately 20 minutes after the first shooting call, a second shooting call was reported. The victim was shot in the leg.

WJTV-TV reports that four suspects were arrested, but had not been charged late Thursday.

The four were reportedly caught in Baton Rouge.

Whether the four are connected to both shootings is unclear.
