Latest: Mississippi coronavirus cases continue at steady rate

Mississippi reported additional COVID-19 coronavirus cases Saturday at a rate below the 7-day and 14-day averages.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 257 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 19,348. The state estimates more than 13,000 of those cases have fully recovered.
The state announced Saturday 8 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 889. State health officials said 4 of the deaths reported Saturday actually occurred between May 25 and June 4, but their reporting was delayed.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases dropped slightly to 331 per day. The record high of the 7-day average of new cases is 332 and was set on Friday.
The 14-day average of daily new cases dropped Saturday to 294 cases per day. The 14-day, daily average record was 317 set on Wednesday.
Mississippi’s death toll from coronavirus includes 456 people from long-term care facilities or 51 percent of the total deaths.
