The suspect in the shooting death of a Mississippi sheriff’s deputy was captured Saturday after a two-day manhunt, the Mississippi Highway Patrol reported.

Law enforcement officers captured Joaquin Blackwell, 22, who is accused of shooting Simpson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy James Blair, 77.

Blackwell was apparently in custody with the sheriff’s office but had been transported to a mental health facility for evaluation.

As Blair escorted Blackwell out of the facility, apparently Blackwell grabbed the deputy’s firearm and shot him. Blackwell then reportedly fled and eluded the police until Saturday.
