Mississippi’s latest coronavirus report shows numbers lower, expected on weekend

Mississippi reported additional COVID-19 coronavirus cases Sunday at a lower rate than the past seven days’ average, though historical trends indicate weekend low numbers of cases reported is common.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 168 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 19,516. The state estimates more than 13,000 of those cases have fully recovered.

The state announced Sunday 2 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 891.

Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases remained steady at 321 per day. The record high of the 7-day average of new cases is 332 and was set on Friday.

The 14-day average of daily new cases dropped Sunday to 287 cases per day. The 14-day, daily average record was 317 set on Wednesday.
