An 85-year-old security guard was shot and killed Sunday night while outside a Mississippi apartment complex.

David Herring was shot just after 11 p.m. Sunday, police say, while he was sitting in his car outside Canton Estates apartments.

Herring was taken to a Jackson hospital where he died a short time later, just after midnight Monday morning.

The investigation into the shooting continues, but no one had been arrested by midday Monday.
