A 16-year-old Mississippi high school football player collapsed during a team practice Tuesday and later died at a hospital.

The Lee County School District confirmed that a player collapsed and emergency crews transported the teen to the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. The player died at the hospital.

The Lee County Coroner told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal newspaper that the plan was identified as Jakobe Kyshon Cooper, 16, who was a player on the Shannon High School football team.

“The Lee County School District and the Shannon Red Raider Family extend our deepest sympathy to this young man’s family,” the school district said in a news release.
