Mississippi 8-year-old boy drowns during summer camp

An 8-year-old boy attending a summer camp drowned Wednesday afternoon at a Mississippi YMCA pool.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey confirmed the boy who emergency officials worked to save from drowning Wednesday afternoon has died.

The boy, who was attending a summer camp at the YMCA facility on Clay Street was pronounced dead at Merit Health River Region at 3:52 p.m.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Craig Danczyk said 911 received the call of a possible drowning at the YMCA at 3:15 p.m.

Units from the nearby fire station responded within moments and began life-saving measures. Danczyk also said Josh Davis, a firefighter who was off duty at the time, was also in the area and responded.

The child was then transported to Merit Health River Region for emergency care.
