A Mississippi county became the latest municipality across the state to officially stop flying the current Mississippi state flag.

On Monday the Tunica County Board of Supervisors voted to stop flying the flag, which contains a Confederate symbol.

The flag has become under renewed scrutiny lately as American comes to grips with what many people say is institutional racism after the death of George Floyd, while he was in the custody of Minneapolis police.

The City of Gulfport recently made a similar decision and a number of university’s and other cities have chosen not to fly the flag, though many without formal action to do so.

The University of Mississippi, after months and months of bureaucratic processes, has finally received permission to move a controversial Confederate statue from a prominent place on the campus.
