Much of Mississippi will have a chance of isolated, but potentially severe storms today, particularly in the afternoon, with storms capable of producing damaging winds and even hail up to quarter-size.

National Weather Service forecasters said the greatest likelihood for the storms will be in the afternoon and early evening.

A large, moist airmass is in place across the state and as the temperature heats up into the afternoon, forecasters say scattered to numerous storms are expected.

“A few of the storms may become strong to severe with damaging wind gusts to 60 mph being the primary threat,” forecasters with the Jackson office of the NWS said. “Hail up to quarter size and locally heavy downpours will also accompany the strongest storms.”
