Mississippi coronavirus daily average keeps climbing; here are the latest numbers

Mississippi reported additional new COVID-19 coronavirus cases and deaths Sunday as the trailing 7- and 14-day averages of new cases continued to climb to new record highs.
The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 361 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 25,892. The state estimates more than 17,000 of those cases have fully recovered.
On Thursday, the state reported a single-day record for new cases with 1,092 cases.
The state announced Sunday 4 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,039.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases rose to 560 per day, a new record high. The 7-day average is more than double was it was just three weeks ago on June 7.
The 14-day average of daily new cases rose Sunday to 455 cases per day, also a new record high.
Mississippi’s death toll from coronavirus includes 511 people from long-term care facilities or 49.2 percent of the total deaths.
On Sunday the state reported 676 patients were hospitalized that either had confirmed COVID-19 or were suspected of having the virus, but hadn’t been confirmed by a test. That number was down from the previous several days.
