The mayor of a Mississippi city says people must take COVID-19 coronavirus seriously as he mourns the loss of a police officer.
Edwards Mayor Marcus Wallace said the loss of Sgt. Kelvin Mixon was a “sad day for the town of Edwards,” in a social media post after Mixon died Thursday.
Wallace described Mixon as “one of the most dedicated officers I’ve had under my leadership.”
“Whenever I called, he was coming. This is truly a tough one,” the mayor wrote.
The Edwards police department had to shut down last month after a number of officers tested positive for the virus and had to be quarantined.
