Mississippi reports second-straight day of lower coronavirus numbers

Published 12:10 pm Monday, July 6, 2020

The recent spike in reported new COVID-19 coronavirus cases remained much lower Monday for the second-straight day. The lowered amounts could be tied to delayed reporting over the Fourth of July holiday or it could means a slowing of the virus’ spread.

The Mississippi State Health Department reported an additional 357 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 31,257. The state estimates more than 22,000 of those cases have fully recovered.

The state did not immediately release the latest number of hospitalizations from COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19 on Monday, but on Saturday the number was at an all-time high.
