Another record rise: New COVID-19 cases pushes state to a two-week average high

The two-week average of new COVID-19 coronavirus cases rose to another all-time high Wednesday.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported Wednesday an additional 674 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours bringing the total cases to 32,888. The state estimates more than 22,000 of those cases have fully recovered.

The 14-day average of daily new cases rose Friday to 676 cases per day, a new record high.

On Wednesday the state reported another sharp rise in patients hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases.

In total 885 people were in Mississippi hospitals Monday breaking the previous record high of 872 that was set last week. The number of patients in an ICU continues to slowly rise from 141 patients in mid-June to 173 patients reported Monday.

The state also reported 30 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,188.

Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases sharply rose to 713 per day.

Mississippi’s death toll from coronavirus includes 570 people from long-term care facilities.

Totals of all reported cases since March 11, including those in long-term care (LTC) facilities.
